Pujas (Chanted Meditations)

At Akanishta Centre we engage in beautiful Buddhist prayers and meditations. Practising pujas uplifts and inspires the mind, and gives us the inner energy we need to make our spiritual practice effective in daily life.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Some of the pujas we practise together:

Wishfulfilling Jewel

Wishfulfilling Jewel contains two essential practices. The first part is a special Guru Yoga practice in which we receive blessings and inspiration from our own Spiritual Guide visualized as Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of our tradition and the manifestation of all Buddhas’ wisdom, compassion and spiritual power.

The second part of the puja is the condensed sadhana of the Dharma Protector in which we receive special care and protection from the wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden, the protector of Je Tsongkhapa’s tradition.

This puja is a daily practice for Kadampa Buddhists throughout the world and provides a perfect context in which to practise Lamrim, Lojong and Mahamudra.

Dates and times

In addition to this daily puja, we also practise the following every month:

8th - Liberation from Sorrow

Praises and requests to the twenty-one Taras. Tara is a female Buddha, if we rely upon Mother Tara sincerely and with strong faith, she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfil all our wishes. These praises are very powerful because they are Sutra, the actual words of Buddha.

10th & 25th  Offering to the Spiritual Guide with tsog

The essence of this Guru yoga pratice is to develop a strong conviction that our Spiritual Guide is a Buddha, to make prostrations, offerings, and sincere requests to him or her, and then to receive his or her profound blessings.

15th - Mahayana precepts

With Bodhichitta motivation we pratice for twenty four hours a special moral discipline.

29th - Melodious drum Victorious in all Directions.

This is the extensive sadhana of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugdan.
